Good evening, LSR7 Parents and guardians:
At a special meeting held this afternoon, the Board of Education voted, 5-2, to extend LSR7’s indoor mask requirement until February 24, the date of the next regular Board meeting. Masks are required at all indoor R-7 facilities until this date.
The Council’s expansion of the district’s mask requirement comes with the district’s adoption of new contact tracing protocols that the Jackson County Health Department is now authorizing for districts with universal masking .
Since the district will continue to mask, beginning this week, school officials will only contact trace cases of COVID-19 when clusters of positive cases occur in what the health department considers to be high-risk environments, including indoor sports and lunch. We will also continue to contact the trace of any cases in medically fragile classrooms.
Outside of the situations described above, LSR7 will no longer send home students or staff who previously met the close contact/exposure criteria. However, we will continue to notify families when positive cases have been identified in their child’s grade level (elementary) or class (secondary), and we will continue to provide district and building data on our dashboard. weekly edge.
These new guidelines do not change stay-at-home requirements for COVID-19+ students or staff. People who test positive stay home for up to 10 days, but have the option of returning to school after five days if symptoms improve. Students and staff who are presumptive positive because they have symptoms of COVID-19 must stay home for at least five days or provide a negative laboratory PCR or antigen test to return to school.
Again, while LSR7 will only contact clusters of positive cases in high-risk settings, we can all play an important role in mitigating the impact of COVID-19 on our school community by monitoring the symptoms and staying home if symptomatic.
