Voisin hopes to learn from contact in Race 1 at Oulton Park
Callum Voisin intensified from Ginetta Junior Championship in the GB3 Championship for 2022, but had a disappointing start to the season after contact with teammate Javier Sagrera and Alex Connor on the first lap of Race 1 at Oulton Park the Saturday.

“Saturday was a mixed day, qualifying was pretty good but the race was just full of different things,” he said.
“All accordion in one, out of the hairpin that I brought out, I was in the peloton and had a bit of contact.
“It was just a bit unfortunate really, everything that could go wrong happened. But I’m confident we’ve got the pace so we just have to get through, have a clean first lap and then we should be on the right track. path for a good result.
“I learned what was wrong and what I could do best to prevent this kind of thing from happening again.”
GB3 adopted the Tatuus MSV-022, an upgrade package of his old car, for this year. It brings a 20hp boost and a 20% increase in downforce, but it’s not without its challenges.
Neighbors Pug his teammate Javier Sagrera told TCF on Monday afternoon that the new halo was less of a problem than the Euroformula-style side airbox, and the Anglo-Swiss rider echoed his sentiments.
“To be honest, you don’t notice the halo at all. When driving, it really does not bother you. It’s quite surprising actually.
He and Sagrera both expressed concern about the positioning of the airbox, noting that it fills out much of the view from the left driver’s side mirror.
“It’s actually a small problem really, I don’t know if GB3 have thought about it, it’s actually a decent problem.
“Obviously you can try to get around it, but it’s still an obstacle.
“It just means [in] left turns, if someone is passing you, you might not see them. It’s a problem but I think everyone will get used to it, it’s something we have to work around.
“The easiest way is just to get away from everyone and you don’t have to worry about that, but certainly in the first lap it’s a bit awkward.”
He starts Race 2 from 11th and Race 3 from 15th, suggesting the airbox issue could continue to plague him throughout the weekend.
“I think I’m going pretty close to the bottom because I qualified fifth, that’s from your first race.
“For [Race 2] I start in the middle but in Race 3 I will be at the back of the pack. I hope I can go with the fastest guys and take a few places.
“I’m not expecting much here, it’s probably one of the toughest places to pass on the calendar but we’ll do our best.”
