Newly appointed Tasmanian Prime Minister Jeremy Rockliff has announced that the Covid close contact rules will change from next week.
The rule changes will come into effect from 12:01 a.m. on Monday May 2, with close contacts no longer required to self-isolate for seven days.

“Close contacts will still need to follow a range of measures and anyone who shows symptoms of Covid-19 should still self-isolate and get tested immediately,” Mr Rockliff said on Wednesday.
“Close contacts should take a daily rapid antigen test, wear a face mask when outside the home and indoor spaces, notify their workplace of their close contact status, and avoid high-risk premises. such as aged care facilities and hospitals.”
The Prime Minister and Minister of Health encouraged household contacts to continue working from home, where possible, to avoid large gatherings and contact with the most vulnerable people.
“The most important thing Tasmanians can do is to continue to roll up their sleeves and get vaccinated or get your booster if it’s due, to protect themselves and the community and continue to practice COVID safe behaviors. .”

Tasmania will become the final state to drop the isolation of asymptomatic close contacts, in line with national guidelines.
Apple Island recorded a peak in cases on Wednesday with 1,213 new infections and unfortunately one Covid-related death.
There are currently 40 people being treated for Covid in hospital, with one patient in intensive care.
