Spurs make contact over de Vrij deal
Tottenham Hotspur have decided to bring Stefan de Vrij to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium during the summer transfer window.
What is the speech?
That’s according to a report by FC Inter News (via Sport Witness), which claims that, although Inter Milan and the centre-back have agreed in principle to a €4.5m-a-year deal (3 £.8 million a year). Running until the summer of 2025, due to the Serie A outfit’s financial struggles, Mino Raiola has sounded out interest in the 30-year-old.
The report goes on to say that one club interested in a transfer for the Dutch international is Antonio Conte’s Spurs, who are said to have been the most convincing of any team to approach the defender’s agent, with the 52-year-old l he former manager believed he was more than willing to sanction a swoop for his former player this summer.
Finally, it is claimed that Barcelona are also keeping tabs on the centre-back’s situation ahead of a possible transfer at the end of the current campaign, while Inter are said to be willing to part ways with the 6’2 defender – as long as he were expected to receive a figure in the region of €30m (£25m) for the 30-year-old.
Who would you rather Spurs sign?
From Vrij
Rüdiger
Forget Rudiger
With it being recently reported that Tottenham have been ruled out of a move for Antonio Rudiger from Chelsea this summer, should a situation arise in which Inter fail to put pen to paper on De De’s proposed contract extension. Vrij, the Dutchman would very well look like something of a dream alternative to the German centre-back – especially if he’s available for just £25m.
Indeed, the £40.5million-rated defender was an influential part of Conte’s Scudetto-winning side during his 32 Serie A appearances last season, helping the Nerazzurri to keep 11 clean sheets and scoring one goal, while averaging 1.3 steals, 0.9 tackles, 2.9 clearances, 57.4 assists and 3.3 duels won – with a 60% success rate – per game.
These returns allowed the player Mauricio called a “monster” who “deserves to be at a big club” to achieve a quite extraordinary Seasonal Match Rating of 7.03 on SofaScore, ranking him as the 10th best player in Inter the last time.
As such, given Conte’s history of success with De Vrij, in addition to the fact that the 30-year-old seems happy with a contract worth £73,000 a week compared to demands for £300,000-a-week from Rudiger, it would look entirely as if Fabio Paratici could land the 52-year-old Spurs manager’s dream alternative to Chelsea centre-back with a swoop for the Inter colossus this summer.
