Specsavers said in the email, “CooperVision’s quality testing has determined that the product may not provide appropriate levels of disinfection under certain circumstances against elevated levels of a particular yeast organism.”
The opticians added that no complaints had been received, that there had been no confirmed incidents attributed to inadequate disinfection and that the measure had been taken as a caution.
Specsavers offers customers an alternative multi-purpose solution in their next contact lens pack, which has been recommended by their clinical team to meet customer needs.
Users of the CooperVision solution were asked to stop using the product once they received an alternative.
If you have any open or unused bottles of solution, you may receive a refund and Specsavers apologizes for the inconvenience.
To make it as easy as possible for you to receive your refund, CooperVision is operating a callback website with a dedicated support number should you have any questions.
In a statement, a CooperVision spokesperson said: “CooperVision is voluntarily recalling its Hy-Care® general-purpose contact lens solution (and branded variants of this product).
“Laboratory testing has determined that the product may not provide appropriate levels of disinfection under certain circumstances against high levels of a particular yeast organism. Although no complaints have been received and no confirmed incidents have been attributed to this issue, this action is taken out of an abundance of caution.
“It is important that users continue to clean and disinfect their soft contact lenses, so they should discontinue use and discard their HyCare® Multi-Purpose Solution (or the retailer’s branded variant of this product) once they have obtained an alternative multi-purpose solution.
“They need to keep the bottle in order to get their refund, which they can do by visiting the recall website.
‘This website will go live on Monday, February 28, 2022 (13:00 GMT).
“If users have questions about an alternative multi-purpose solution, they should contact their eye care professional.”
