Solon man charged with sexual contact with minor
Cortland County Sheriff’s officials say they arrested a Solon town man accused of sexually abusing a child last year.
Jason Riley, 30, was arrested on October 2 and charged with felony third-degree felony sexual act, which is a class E felony and misdemeanor endangering the welfare of a child in connection with a alleged sexual contact with a minor between June and September last year.
According to a news release from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office, investigators have been called to review an incident report of sexual abuse in the town of Solon.
Authorities say their investigation revealed that the accused, Jason Riley, had inappropriate sexual contact with a child during the four months of summer 2021. The press release does not reveal whether there were one or more alleged incidents of inappropriate sexual touching in the months between June and September last year.
According to the account from the sheriff’s office, authorities applied for an arrest warrant for the Criminal Sex and Child Endangerment Act in Solon City Court.
On Sunday, October 2, Riley was arrested on warrant.
He was taken to the Central Arraignment and formal charges were filed at 10 a.m. on Monday, October 3. Following his arraignment, Riley was released on his own recognizance.
The sheriff’s office says the next court date for the Cortland County man is scheduled for the evening of Oct. 26. At that time, Riley is due to appear in Solon City Court.
A third-degree felony sex act conviction carries a sentence of up to four years in prison in New York State.
