Pincroft pulls from the hip with no skin contact vector protection for military fabrics

UK/INTERNATIONAL
Pincroft, a custom textile dyer, printer and finisher with over 90 years of experience supplying armed forces and defense contractors worldwide, has announced the adoption of precision spray technology that enables the application of many finishes for textiles, including permethrin for vector protection.

The system is a more versatile and environmentally friendly alternative to the traditional upholstery application method and offers the option of applying the chemistry to the face side or both sides of the fabric across the entire width.

The benefits of this new equipment are innumerable not only for the end user but also for the environment. The system allows for a reduction in energy, water and water absorption of up to 50%, while 100% of the chemistry is recycled. Thanks to the equipment’s precision application technology, less water and chemicals are needed, and its immersion-free system means the fabric would require less saturation and a shorter drying time.

In terms of end-user benefits, the new precision spray technology adopted by Pincroft, solves the problems associated with the use of permethrin for vector protection in contact with the skin, a common phenomenon among soldiers. who need protection against mosquitoes, ticks and other insects during combat.

Mike Collins, Managing Director of Pincroft, said: “This innovative equipment can be used in two ways. Single-sided spray finishing can be used when the full effectiveness of the finish is only required on the front side of the final article, for example, vector, fluorocarbon and antimicrobial protection. The double spray finish can be used to simulate the traditional upholstery method where the full effectiveness of the finish is required depending on the end use, e.g. crease recovery, fabric softening, stain release soiling and moisture management.

The vector protection solution provided by Pincroft is ACTIGARD®, a proprietary technology developed by Sanitized AG, with long-lasting active ingredients that have been shown to be highly effective against mosquitoes and ticks. This product withstands a high number of washes, is suitable for military uniforms and complies with the 100 by Oeko-Tex ® standard.
