Odell Beckham Jr. reacts to Giants WR Sterling Shepard non-contact injury: ‘Why can’t we play on the grass?’
During the final two minutes of Monday’s game between the Dallas Cowboys and New York Giants, Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard was driving down a road and injured his non-contact knee. Shepard made no cuts and had no one around when the injury occurred.
Shepard ended up having to be carried off the field and, according to ESPN’s Jordan Raananthe wide receiver season is probably over.
Shortly after Shepard suffered the devastating injury, free agent Odell Beckham Jr. weighed in on the situation. He took to social media to share his belief that NFL teams need to do away with grass playing surfaces and play completely on grass in order to avoid serious injuries like this.
“Just get rid of all fkngether bro,” Beckham tweeted after Shepard’s injury. “Billions made from this game, I don’t understand why we can’t play on grass. This shxt is hard. Prayers for my brother. Shxt just made my heart ache.”
Beckham, who was a Giants teammate of Shepard from 2016 to 2018, knows full well how quickly a player’s time on the court can end on an artificial playing surface.
During Super Bowl LVI, Beckham suffered a torn ACL while playing for the Los Angeles Rams at SoFi Stadium, which has artificial turf. Beckham has returned to a healthy state of health, but remains a free agent with three weeks of the 2022 NFL season on the books.
