Newcastle ‘contact PSG over Keylor Navas’ as they plan ambitious transfer to bolster Eddie Howe survival bid
NEWCASTLE have made contact with Paris Saint-Germain regarding Keylor Navas, according to reports.
The Toons are plotting an ambitious transfer to bolster Eddie Howe’s side for scrap to avoid relegation.
And according to RMC Sport, the Toon have shown interest in the PSG goalkeeper.
Newcastle, who sit in 19th place, have conceded 43 Premier League goals this season with Martin Dubravka, Karl Darlow and Freddie Woodman all having stints.
Dubravka kept the Magpies’ only clean sheet of the season against Burnley in December.
But the chance to try and sign a world-class stopper like Navas, 35, would give a major boost to the team currently two points from safety.
The Costa Rican star with 100 caps has plenty of pedigree after 162 appearances for Real Madrid – winning three Champions Leagues – before joining PSG in 2019.
He’s closing in on 100 games for them and has pretty much retained the No.1 spot between the sticks despite the summer arrival of Italian hero Gianluigi Donnarumma.

And hence, the report adds that the Ligue 1 giants want to keep Navas for the rest of the season and won’t accept any offers from January.
Even then, it would take a lot to convince him to swap the game alongside Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos for Jonjo Shelvey and Paul Dummett.
As revealed by SunSport, Newcastle have also been keeping tabs on Lazio goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha as another possible option.
Elsewhere, Donny van de Beek has rejected the chance to join the Magpies on loan.
And the immediate aim for Howe and the new Saudi owners is to improve the defense with at least one new centre-back wanted before the transfer window closes.
