ALBANY, NY (WWTI) – COVID-19 contact tracing has ended in New York City.
On April 28, the New York State Department of Health ended its virtual contact tracing and COVID-19 case investigation program. This follows contract seeking calls ending in January 2022 after the two statewide efforts began in May 2020.
Going forward, those who test for or are exposed to COVID-19 may not receive a call from their local health department.
Specifically in the north of the country, St. Lawrence County Public Health has confirmed that it will focus its efforts on the most vulnerable populations, including the elderly, school-aged children, daycares, nursing homes nursing and health care facilities.
However, those who test positive for COVID-19 with a lab-confirmed test will still be notified of their result by where they were tested. Results will also continue to be communicated to local health departments.
People who test positive in a home test will also need to report the results to local public health departments.
Individuals with a lab-confirmed test or who have self-reported to local health departments will continue to receive a text message from NYSDOH.
COVID-positive patients and close contacts should still follow statewide isolation and quarantine guidelines.
