Letter to the Editor: Urge to contact local legislators to support HB 2781 – The Bee – The buzz in Bullhead City – Lake Havasu City – Kingman – Arizona – California

I urge you to reach out to your legislators with your own talking points and respectfully request their yes votes and encouragement for their elected colleagues to also vote for this incredibly important bill. This can make a difference for those of us operating under the current restricted chalet law. See my talking points below and thanks for your time. Discussion points: For example:

Talking point 1: My baked goods do not contain preservatives or additives like commercially produced products. As a bakery and farmer’s market owner, customers are more demanding and selective in promoting their own good health. We artisan bakers can provide quality food on a smaller scale and cater to custom requests based on customer dietary needs. Having to resort to non-dairy products is unhealthy and just doesn’t have the great flavor of dairy. A yes vote from you allows those of us operating under the current Cottage Act to use healthier ingredients in our recipes.

Discussion Point 2: There are no commercial kitchens in my area where I can get a stewardship agreement where I can prepare and package potentially hazardous foods. With a yes vote, this would allow me to prepare and package potentially hazardous foods from my approved residential kitchen.

Discussion point 3: I would have the ability to offer a more unique, specialized and expanded menu to the citizens of the region in which I live. For example, being from Louisiana, I am a chef and I specialize not only in baking, but also in Cajun/Creole cuisine. Current cottage law limits my ability to prepare savory dishes from my residential kitchen. Your yes vote can change that.
