Lakers injury report: Anthony Davis cleared for contact
The Lakers received some bad news on the injury front Monday when Kendrick Nunn suffered a setback in rehab for a bone bruise and had to be slowed down as his return is delayed again, but the news wasn’t all negative. in Los Angeles. Not only did the team earn perhaps its best win of the year against the Utah Jazz, but big man superstar Anthony Davis had his sprained MCL re-evaluated and allowed to progress with his own rehabilitation.
Lakers head coach Frank Vogel broke the news after Davis was examined by team doctors during the win.
“Everything looked clean on the MRI and checkup with the doctors, so he was cleared for a field ramp-up with contact,” Vogel said. “That doesn’t mean we’ll have a timeline. There is still some reconditioning and speeding up the work involved.
Still, it’s still the last sign of hope that Davis could be back soon, as ESPN’s Dave McMenamin also recently reported that the Lakers are “optimistic” that Davis will return on the team’s upcoming six-game road trip to the Grammy Awards.
Davis has missed the Lakers’ last 14 games after sustaining a sprain against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Dec. 17. He’s averaging 23.3 points and 9.9 rebounds while shooting 52.1 percent from the field this season.
As I wrote a few days ago, the team’s defense has dropped dramatically since Davis’ fall, and his (seemingly imminent) return will give the Lakers a traditionally sized playable center so the team can use LeBron James as a primary backup. in the pivot as a change of pace option, rather than a survival mechanism every game.
