Five Proud Boys Charged with Sedition, Court Issues No Contact Order Against Troyer, Say Hello to New Assistant Director for SAM’s Art

Cheers for the baby salmon! The 2020 removal of a causeway in Kilisut Harbor on Indian Island reopened a fish passage, leading to an increase in the number of juvenile salmon in the tides, reports KOMO. Five years before the bridge opened, only six juvenile salmon were found. But this year, volunteers caught nearly 1,000. “We didn’t expect these results so quickly,” Indian Island environmental program manager Bill Kalina told the outlet.

Jesus H. Christ: Pierce County Sheriff Ed Troyer was ordered to stay 1,000 feet away from Sedrick Altheimer, a black newspaper hauler who is currently suing Troyer and Pierce County for a confrontation in January 2021 for “unlawful harassment”. More Jim Brunner at Seattle Times:

In making the ruling on Monday, Pierce County District Court Pro Tem Judge Christine Chin cited “unlawful harassing conduct,” referring to multiple incidents over the past several months in which Altheimer said that Troyer had followed him in his unmarked SUV, circling around and flashing his lights as he delivered newspapers to Tacoma.”

Speaking of cops: Three Arizona cops have been furloughed after seeing a homeless man drown in Tempe Town Lake last month, reports the BBC. Newly released body camera footage records one of the cops saying to the man, “I’m not jumping after you.” Protect and serve, amirite?

“I feel the earth move under my feet…” A small 2.8 magnitude earthquake shook southwest Washington last night just before 7 p.m. reports KOMO. According to the US Geological Survey, the “earthquake was approximately 2.3 miles deep and struck Fern Prairie, WA in Clark County.” Nothing was damaged, but if you felt it, why not help some scientists.

In other earthquake news: A new study in Earth-Science Reviews has found that a 9.0 earthquake-triggered tsunami along the Pacific Northwest’s Cascadia Fault Line could be even bigger thanks to what is called “the outer corner”. Isn’t danger kinda sexy?

Five members of Proud Boy charged with “seditious conspiracy” for their part in the seizure of the Capitol on January 6: Among those charged are Henry “Enrique” Tarrio, the former chairman of the far-right group, as well as Ethan Nordean, who Lives nearby Auburn. According to New York Timesthe men had previously been charged in March with “conspiring to obstruct the certification of the 2020 presidential election”.

And later this week: The House Select Committee Investigating the Attack on the U.S. Capitol hold its first of six public hearings during PRIMETIME on June 9 at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST. The hearings will include new information, video clips from that violent day and “some of the nearly 1,000 interviews the committee conducted behind closed doors.” Democrats hope that help turn around what looks like a mid-term massacre, but I’m not holding my breath!

Milo Yiannopoulos is interning at Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene’s office, lol: And, yes, it is unpaid.

No takeies-backsies: Elon Musk tries to extricate himself from spending $44 billion on Twitter by threatening to walk away of the agreement about robots and fake accounts on the platform. Axios said that Tesla shares are worth far less today than when Musk made an offer on Twitter, meaning the CEO is “paying too much for the company, with money he’ll be hard pressed to come up with” . Twitter has none of the billionaire’s BS and in a statement said it “intends to complete the transaction and execute the merger agreement at the agreed price and terms.” I’m popping popcorn!

Weather update: We like a 30 degree range.

This is seal whelping season in Puget Sound, which means keeping your damn dog at home if you plan on enjoying any of Seattle Park’s beaches in West Seattle. These tiny seal pups are vulnerable, protected by federal law, and likely to appear anytime through September. If you spot puppies on the beach, avoid them and call the Seal Sitters Helpline at 206-905-7325.

A big series of layoffs at Funko: The Everett-based company plans to lay off 258 workers in Everett and Puyallup starting Thursday, reports KING 5. According to a Funko spokesperson, the company is consolidating its four Washington warehouses into a single 958,000 square foot location in Buckeye, Arizona.

New Associate Director for Art at the Seattle Art Museum: After an “extensive international search”, José Carlos Diaz will officially assume the position in July, where he will direct the museum’s artistic program and lead eight curators in exhibitions, collections, publications and libraries. He succeeds the wonderful Chiyo Ishikawa in the role, who retired in 2020 after three decades with SAM. According to a museum press release, Diaz is a “contemporary art scholar” and comes to Seattle from Pittsburgh, where he is currently chief curator at the Andy Warhol Museum. SAM CEO and Director Amada Cruz called Diaz a “researcher and visionary leader” whose hire represents “a huge moment for SAM, as we continue to navigate an ongoing pandemic and look to a future better”. Welcome Jose!

Something to consider: The shower ruben would probably go very well with a shower beer.
