Exactly five days after he was abducted outside his country house in Jattu, Etsako West Local Government Area, the kidnappers of the Chairman of the Edo State branch of the Independent Petroleum Traders Association of Nigeria (IPMAN), Alhaji Abdul-Hamid Egele, contacted his family, demanding a ransom of 80 million naira before being released.
Egele, also known as Baba Petrol, was abducted around 7 p.m. Monday by gunmen, who shot and killed his driver and two security personnel.
A source close to the family of the kidnapped IPMAN boss told Auchi on Friday that “the kidnappers contacted the family today morning and they are asking for 80 million naira before he is released.
“This is the development so far and the first time they have contacted the family since Monday evening when he was kidnapped outside his gate after work closed and the kidnappers came in vehicles. “
An eyewitness, who requested anonymity, said the incident happened as Egele was returning home from the day’s business and was accosted by the gunmen.
“The gunmen ambushed the President of IPMAN with two vehicles without license plates and shot at his jeep and killed his driver.
“The IPMAN chairman was then taken away after the security attached to him was overpowered by the gunmen who injured the security guards,” the eyewitness said.
Edo State Police Public Relations Officer Kontings Bello, who earlier confirmed the death of the shot second security guard, when contacted on Friday for the development of the incident, said said the command had not yet obtained any new information about the abduction and that the family had not informed the police of any contact.
