Covid case linked to Ayrshire pub triggers contact tracing exercise

People who have visited an Ayrshire pub over an eight-day period are being asked to take a Covid test.

It follows a positive case of the virus linked to the Dalmellington Inn.

The NHS Ayrshire & Arran Test & Protect team are currently carrying out a contact tracing exercise with links to the bar, following the infection.

A mobile screening unit will be sent to the town tomorrow (Wednesday) and Thursday.

Anyone who visited the Dalmellington Inn between Saturday November 27 and Sunday December 5 is urged to get tested.

The mobile testing unit for anyone with symptoms is available in the Dalmellington Area Center parking lot between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on both days.

Lynne McNiven, director of public health at NHS Ayrshire & Arran, said: “All relevant public health measures are in place and our public health team are working with the Dalmellington Inn management team to manage and monitor the situation. .

“People living in Ayrshire and Arran are reminded to follow current guidance to help stop the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19) in our communities.

“The local vaccination program continues to urge residents of Ayrshire to be vaccinated against Covid-19.

“The vaccine offers the highest level of protection against the virus and we encourage everyone to take the opportunity when it’s their turn.”

It comes as a second case of the new Omicron variant was confirmed today in Ayrshire.
