COVID-19 Case Investigations and Contact Tracing – Official Arlington County Virginia Government Website
Case investigations and contact tracing are tools used to control and prevent the spread of diseases, such as COVID-19. The goal of a case investigation is to talk to people who have a disease (case) to find out more about their disease and whether they have exposed others. The goal of contact tracing is to find people who may have been exposed to a case (contacts) and possibly infected. It can prevent more people from getting sick.

Arlington County will still call cases and contacts even if they are fully vaccinated. Breakthroughs can occur and this helps to ensure contacts are symptom free. If you have recovered from COVID-19 within the past 90 days, staff may still contact you as, although rare, cases of re-infection have been reported.
*The purpose of these questions is to find people you may have exposed to COVID-19 so they know what to do. The staff will not share any information about you unless you say you agree.

COVIDNOTICE is a cell phone application from the Virginia Department of Health.
- It lets users know when they have been in contact with other users who have COVID-19.
- Download COVIDWISE from the App Store for iPhone and the Google Play Store for Android.
- Downloading and using the app is 100% voluntary.
Only Arlington County staff will call you regarding case investigations and contact tracing. They will try to call you until you answer.
They will not ask:
- Social Security number
- Financial or banking information
- Passwords
- Other personal information not related to COVID-19
- Photographs or videos
- Money
If you’re not sure, hang up and call the Arlington County COVID-19 Hotline at 703-228-7999. Ask to speak to someone from the case investigation or contact tracing team.
