Clovis Unified is ending part of its COVID-19 protocol, including ending contact tracing, the school district announced.
The changes went into effect Thursday after receiving school guidance updates from the Fresno County Public Health Department.
As part of Clovis Unified’s COVID-19 updates:
- Contact tracing will no longer occur for close contacts after a positive case report, and ends quarantine for symptom-free siblings after a positive household contact
- Classroom exposure letters will also no longer be generated after a COVID case report
- Student testing will no longer be required for after-school programs. However, when teams travel outside of Fresno County, competing students will still need to follow CIF or event protocols in the county where the event is taking place.
- Testing of students who return before Day 11 after a positive COVID test will continue, as will the expectation that household members of a positive case self-monitor for symptoms. The district is still offering free COVID-19 testing as a service to help students get back to class as soon as possible.
“We are grateful to see the rates of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations declining to such an extent that such changes can be made and we will continue to partner with our local and national health officials on future updates. K-12 school protocols,” Clovis Unified said in a press release. “These new updates allow students who have no symptoms and who have not tested positive for COVID-19 to remain in school, and only students who are sick or who have tested positive for COVID-19 to stay at home.”
Clovis Unified still requires face masks to be worn indoors for students and for staff when students are present, as part of a California mandate. Mask rules are required for grades K-12.
The relaxed protocols are a reflection of COVID-19 conditions continuing to show improvements in the state and county, Clovis Unified said.
