Chelsea make contact with Ajax star and Manchester United target Antony
Chelsea’s search for a winger continues and the latest name to emerge as a potential target is Ajax Amsterdam’s hugely talented winger Antony, who is believed to be a “key target” for arch-rivals Manchester United.
Anthony had 22 goal appearances (12 goals + 10 assists) in 32 appearances for Ajax last season, helping the Dutch giants to an unprecedented 36th Eredivisie title. He now looks set to take his game to the next level.
Since arriving from Sao Paulo two years ago, Antony’s stock has steadily increased. The winger has won nine caps for Brazil’s senior national team since making his debut in October last year.
Links with Man Utd have only been natural, given new Red Devils boss Erik Ten Hag’s familiarity and affection for the winger due to their time together at Ajax. It is expected that the Dutch giants will not accept any offer lower than £69m for Antony, but the representatives of Brazil have would have pleaded with senior club officials to consider any offers that may come on the table.
According 90 minutes (h/t football.london), Chelsea recently held talks with Antony’s entourage to discuss the possibility of a move this summer.
It is believed that Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the winger, so it remains to be seen how much Chelsea are willing to push given they have so many other goals in mind.
Will Antony suit Chelsea?
There’s no denying the Brazilian’s talent and potential, and he clearly has an eye for goal and is very productive in the final third. However, Chelsea also have Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling in mindwhich is considered higher priority at this stage.
There’s Leeds United star and Antony’s senior compatriot Raphinha, who is also on The Chelsea Radarand is a proven option in the Premier League.

Due to their priorities elsewhere, it seems unlikely at this stage that Chelsea will reach £69million in their pockets. It’s a possibility if other priority targets don’t materialize and Antony is still available at this point, but for now that seems like a stretch.
