Chelsea make contact with agent of £40m centre-back

Chelsea have reportedly made contact with Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly’s agent, who is in the club’s sights this summer.

According Gianluca Di MarzioChelsea have intensified their interest in defensive target Koulibaly by contacting his agent in London.

It is understood the 31-year-old is seen as a cheaper alternative to Blues centre-back Matthijs de Ligt and Milan Skriniar, who play for Juventus and Inter Milan respectively.

Koulibaly, who has a year left on a contract that expires in 2023, has been one of Serie A’s most formidable centre-halves in recent years.

It has already been reported that the Senegal international could cost £40m to move away from Napoli during this summer transfer window. The Napoli powerhouse is also seen as a more likely signing for Chelsea than De Ligt.

Looks like Thomas Tuchel’s Les Bleus are pushing ahead with an attempt to sign Koulibaly.

The African centre-back spent the early years of his career in Italy with Napoli but he has all the attributes to succeed if he moves to the Premier League.

His pace, strength and leadership make him such a consistent player every season.

For Chelsea, they must try to find a way to replace Antonio Rudiger next season after he leaves to join Real Madrid.

african stars

Chelsea have been blessed over the years with some of Africa’s greatest players, including current first-choice goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. It would be a reunion of two Senegalese teammates if Koulibaly signed this summer.

Elsewhere, the likes of Didier Drogba, Michael Essien and John Obi Mikel are among many African stars to have already lit up Stamford Bridge.

There is no doubt that the continent currently has some of the elite players in the game.
