Chelsea in contact with Denzel Dumfries
Chelsea are reportedly in contact with the entourage of 26-year-old Inter Milan man Denzel Dumfries over a possible summer move.
According to a report by an Italian publication Gazzetta dello SportChelsea are stepping up their interest in Denzel Dumfries and are in contact with the Dutch wide man’s entourage over a potential move in the current transfer window. The Blues were looking for a right-back to bolster the defensive department.
Chelsea were believed to be in the hunt for a right-back as Cesar Azpilicueta approached a Stamford Bridge exit, with Barcelona his preferred destination. However, the Spaniard ended up extending his contract with the Blues and snubbing Barcelona.
However, Chelsea continue to be on the lookout for a winger to play on the right side of their defence. Reece James will likely be Thomas Tuchel’s first choice for the job, and the club want to sign another player to add depth.
Dumfries has emerged as an option, and the Blues have long been interested in the Dutch wide man. Chelsea have been in the market for him since the start of the current transfer window but face competition from Manchester United.
The Red Devils have Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot as recognized right-backs. But Erik ten Hag hasn’t been hugely impressed with either of them, so Manchester United are exploring the market to sign a player for the job.
As for Dumfries, the 26-year-old joined Inter last summer and has been quite impressive, making 45 appearances in all competitions and scoring five times while assisting seven goals. But amid Inter Milan’s financial troubles, they are ready to listen to offers from almost any player in their squad.
Earlier reports claimed that Inter have asked Chelsea to pay €50m for the Dutchman. The Blues have reportedly had an offer turned down for Dumfries, who still has three years left on his existing contract with the Serie A giants. The 26-year-old is also a regular for the Netherlands and has 35 international caps to his name. He also scored five goals in those matches.
