The Western Australia Department of Education has confirmed there has been a case of COVID-19 at a primary school in the country.

Parents at Allanson Primary School near Collie, 200 kilometers south of Perth, were told over the weekend that there had been a confirmed case of COVID-19 at the school.
The school will remain open, with a small group required to self-isolate.
Department for Education chief executive Lisa Rodgers said the decision to keep the school open was in line with current health guidelines.
“Allanson Elementary School has reached out to families and staff to notify them of a confirmed case of COVID-19 at the school,” she said.
“As per health advice, the school remains open. A small group of people will be required to self-isolate under current high workload environment protocols.”

State School Teachers Union of WA president Pat Byrne said it was the first case she was aware of at a school outside of metropolitan Perth.
“As far as I know, this is the first case we have heard of of a regional school affected. she declared.
Reports of COVID in city schools ‘daily’
The report of COVID at Allanson School comes as WA recorded 62 local cases of COVID-19 overnight.
Ms Byrne said schools were struggling to adapt to new measures introduced a week ago in a bid to reduce transmission.
She said the union is now hearing daily reports about COVID from schools across the city.
“About one or two schools every day that we hear about, which I think indicates that the prevalence of COVID in the community is much higher than the statistics indicate.”
